Fryerning XL Monthly Blog Episode 7 August 2019

Well, here we are back again at Fryerning for Episode 7 of the XL Carp monthly carp blog. Those of you who will have seen last months episode can’t fail to be amazed at just how many carp came out of the Lakes here at Fryerning, with some incredible hauls and P.B.'s smashed left right and centre it was a real treat! Most thought this could not be bettered, but, as always the lakes have produced again just check this out!!!

July can be a funny old month fishing wise, the fish can be moody, easy to find yet difficult to catch often ignoring the best bait placed right in front of them. This has certainly not been the case at Fryerning this month, with all three lakes in scintillating form with fish going on a feeding bonanza in a bid to build their weights back up having spawned the month previous.

The Main Lake alone has seen over 70 carp landed, an incredible figure and more than in some years and these have included some very large, very special carp indeed.

Both the Valley Lake and The Car Park Lakes have also seen some astronomical catches recorded, but more of that in a bit.

With so many carp coming out in July it is difficult to know where to start, there literally has been so many exceptional catches during the month.

To put things into perspective of just how good the month has been, the first week seemed to be relatively quiet with only TEN fish out up to 40lb!!!

Two of these were much sought after A-Team Carp and brought great delight to their captures. The ever consistent Tommy Flower managed to land the Netted Fish at 39lb  whilst a member in a great vein of form, Matt Naylor had The Whinger at over 40lb.

Just how many Lakes in the UK would call this a quiet week? Mental eh???

The following couple of weeks were nothing short of biblical, with carp coming out from all around the lake and in numbers too!

Matt Naylor return visit saw him land a further two A-Teamers from The Chocolate Finger with The Stripe and The Nunn at 30lb and 41lb 12oz. A great result for A member of many years!

Brad Phillips is another angler who has been at Fryerning for a while now and his first session in a while saw him land 3 of The A-Team, with Berties Linear at 40lb 4oz, 4 Scale at 38lb 6oz and The Dalmation at 31lb 8oz. Good seeing you back and doing the business again Brad!

Whilst Brad was hauling in The point, James Jefcoate popped down for a 24-hour session and had what he described as his best 24 hours ever landing three carp for over 112lb.

James had Gurm at 50lb 3oz, The Zip Lin at 34lb 3oz and a cracking looking mirror just shy of 30lb!

In Episode 6 Simon Davey made all the headlines with a mighty haul of 20 carp from The Main Lake, however this month its Mitch Attwood and Paul Bissett who take all the plaudits.

Firstly it was Mitch’s ridicules 18 carp haul in less than 48 hours that stole the show. This incredible catch included;  The Emperor 40lb, Whinger 39lb 14oz, 4 scale 35lb, Riddler 34lb, Dalmation 30lb, Stripe 29lb, The rarely caught orange koi 28lb as well as a whole host of carp over 25lb.

Another session which will go down in folklore and easily the standout of the year so far is Paul Bisset’s haul from the Royal box.

Paul Bissett with The Gurm at 49lb 14oz, part of an incredible haul.

Incredibly Paul landed 3 of the most wanted carp around in one session landing Gurm at 49lb 14oz, The Woodcarving (his and everyone else target) at 39lb and The Mommon at 42lb 8oz. Paul backed this incredible trio up with a 31lb mirror and an awesome looking common!

The Woodcarving, at 39lb.

The Mommon what a result!

Other anglers who had big hits of fish include Barry Wingham with a four carp haul from the point which included 4 scale at 33lb, a 30lb mirror and two mid-twenty commons.

David Wilson was another to enjoy an action-packed session with plenty of carp up to 35lb whilst his uncle Gary had a 30lb 6oz common.

Another Belter for David Wilson

Not surprisingly all of these captures have been caught using big beds of bait, the fish are ravenous, so it makes sense to give them some feed!

This month, at Fryerning, we have so many captures it’s impossible to mention them all, so to see more either check out the Catch Reports page or visit the Main Lake Gallery Page.

Moving over to the Valley Lake and like the Main, the carp have been feeding hard, in a bid to put the weight back on.

Adam spent a bit of time on the Valley at the start of the month doing some filming for Hooked, and over the two days he was on The Valley Lake he landed seven carp up to 30lb.

Adam has been getting in on the action on The Valley Lake!

The following week saw further roasting temperatures including the hottest day of the year and Adam returned,  armed with one rod and a bucket of floaters and managed to land a further two carp.

Another belting Valley Lake Mirror off the top for Adam.

Whilst wandering around The Valley, I had the pleasure of bumping into stars of last month’s blog Mark and Fin Richardson who were once again enjoying an eventful session with a gorgeous 22lb mirror to their name.

I was delighted when I found out they had smashed their P.B. once again with amazing looking 26lb 10oz, just check this fish out!

Another member to smash his P.B. was Darren Bryan who had a brute of a 31lb 8oz common along with a smaller 23lb 6oz common. Both Darren and his son Jake have smashed their P.B.s with 30’s in the last few months since joining Fryerning so well done chaps.

Once again there are too many fish too mention so check out the Catch Reports page and The Valley Lakes Gallery too see more.

Over on The Car Park Lake and the fishing, as always has been phenomenal with some massive hauls!

Young Luke Den, a guest of Simon Davey landed over 20 carp in less than 24 hours and according to Simon, Luke absolutely loved it! With fish and action of this quality, it’s not hard to see why!

Ron Scott is another angler to be enjoying some frantic action on The Car Park Lake, over the years Ron has become a Car Park expert and knows this Lake inside out, catching fish whatever the weather.

Another beautiful Mirror from the Car Park Lake

It’s very noticeable just how big these fish are becoming now in The Car Park, only days ago an angler on their landed 3 x 20’s with the largest a cracking specimen of 26lb 2oz. Keep an eye out on The Catch Report Pages and check them out in next month’s blog!

With such magnificent stocks at Fryerning, I can’t reiterate enough just how important it is to look after them. The guys here take every measure possible to safeguard them from any potential devastating diseases such as KHV even going as far as providing slings, nets and mats.

All they ask is for you to look after the kit, putting it back in the same containers it came from & when it comes to using the nets don’t lift the fish by the handle, draw the fish back towards you, then collapse the arms placing the fish in the sling. If for whatever reason you do happen to break anything, please let the team know.

The exceptional water quality the site at Fryerning boast’s, has been well documented and is certainly something special! Unlike many carp lakes, Fryerning’s are spring-fed and free from outside pollutants such as pesticides and road runoff etc. This quality is just one part of the Jig saw which allows the carp to thrive and grow so big at Fryerning though with careful management it’s improved even further. By adding Barley straw sausages the team prevents against any algae blooms. This month these were removed having done their job over the last few months and believe me this water is looking better than ever!

Barley straw being removed having done its work over the previous few months.

Just by looking in the margins, it’s not hard to see why the fish get so big, the water is teeming with life from bugs too daphnia and in the silt, vast beds rich with bloodworm. An incredible natural larder right under the carp’s noses. We’ve got it all at Fryerning Fisheries!
