Loads of whackers! By Adam Penning

Wading through the catch reports has made me realise that I can only pick a few from the roll call of whackers, so here are some of the best.

Mitchell Das fished the far bank (despite an injured leg) and made one of the most notable captures of the month with a seemingly unknown 39.2 common. Checking back through the records showed that this was a fish last caught at just over thirty pounds in the winter. That is some weight gain and another huge Fryerning common to add to Lukes and the Mommon. Let’s hope it continues its progress and breaks the 40 barrier.

Robert Pryor dropped into the point for a few days and secured an epic six fish haul topped by a 42 common and backed up by four thirties and an upper twenty. That is one of the best hits so far this year; all the fish falling to Mainline Cell.

I ventured up for a two day tutorial with Colin ‘Chopper’ Mould and we took a fish each during gale force conditions. Mine was a cracking upper twenty and Colin’s a mint thirty. Both fish fell to light baiting with Cell and a bit of crumb in a bag cast to showing fish.

Resident nice guy, Herbie Soanes managed a brace of fish from the swim to be in – the Lodge. The Chunk at 37.10 and the Nun at 39lbs made Herbs a very happy man, well done fella!

Another man who took a multiple hit was Tony Howells who bagged a brace of thirties and the Boss at over forty one pounds. Now that is the kind of session I would like to have! Mainline boilies again doing the business for Tony.

Lastly, the man of the moment, Steve Luxford took the Queen of the lake along with a thirty and a near forty pound grassy. This was the first capture of the Gurm in a little while and this was reflected in the big weight of 49lbs. The Lodge swim was again the place to be – well done that man!

As I write, the fish have spawned and although the weights are down as expected, it has done the fish a lot of good and they should now be up for a proper munch so if you are going down, take a fair bit of bait with you and do your best to get on them.

I haven’t been able to fish Fryerning anywhere as much as I would have liked this year due to a super hectic guiding and tutorial schedule but do hope to fit a few sessions in soon. Just compiling this report has really got my juices flowing! Good luck to you all and hopefully I will see you down there.

The electric Gate will be operational from the 17th July.. Don’t forget to collect your keys next time fishing.
