Awesome Carp Growers! Here at Fryerning we have a number of stock/rearing ponds to back up The Main and two Valley Lakes.
The secret to owning fish which grow year on year has not come overnight and has taken years of experience, hard work and a great deal of investment. Firstly you need the right infrastructure such as a vast array of stock ponds, a plentiful supply of top quality water and of course some amazing brood stock.
Some amazing looking carp are created at Fryerning
We stock 1000 C0 first summer fish into our selected ponds with no further introductions, after two years these will be drained via a monk. A normal harvest will see you record around three to five hundred fish that have survived, with anything between 1 and 8 fish being twice the size of their siblings. These very special shoot carp are transferred to specially prepared stock ponds. These ponds have been drained and herring boned (channels dug in the bottom) and limed to sterilise the area killing off any unwanted bugs etc and left to dry. The bottom is then rotavated, manured and left till the bottom grows grass to approximately 4-6 inches then flooded. The shoots are introduced to larger stock ponds which are lightly stocked yet abundant with natural foods. In these conditions our ‘genetic freaks’ thrive, packing on the weight.
Just one of many scaley stunners Fryerning has produced
These fish are what we use for our own syndicate with a small surplus. As you can see, this is a time consuming process which is a lot of hard work yet massively rewarding in so many ways!
