Barley Straw Sausages
Today six of us got stuck in for a few hours creating several barley straw sausages which were then placed into the Main Lake here at Fryerning.
Recent scorching temperatures have seen many venues in the country suffer from algae blooms so to prevent this problem before it got chance to take a grip we decided to fight it head on.

The barley straw sausages, all perfectly formed and ready for action.
Between us we created several barley straw sausages and staked them into various areas of The Main Lake – a harder job than what it seems, especially in 30 degree plus temperatures!

Some serious work was involved in creating and positioning the sausages.
Over the next couple of weeks the straw sausages will work their magic and rid the water of any algae which could if not dealt with cause potential water quality issues.

The sausages were positioned strategically around the lake for maximum effect.
By being pro-active we are improving our water which in turn will maximise fish weight gains and prevent any dramas in the future.

Another set gets towed out ready to work its magic.
A big thanks to those of you who helped with the work part today, your help was invaluable and will certainly benefit the fishery and its members!
