OUT ON THE BANK with Reece Thomas
It’s out on the bank feature time again and this week I caught up with the fish catching machine that is Reece Thomas.
Reece has only been carp fishing for 7 years but he certainly seems to have a knack for wangling out a fish or two as the other Valley Lake members are all too aware of! In a recent session he had no less than 6 20s.
So having spotted Reece tucked away in Newts Corner recently I took the opportunity to catch up with him and see how he catches so many of the Valley Lake’s residents.
Now it wouldn’t be fair to give away too many of Reece’s secrets, but truth be told there isn’t much to tell. Reece relies on good simple rigs, careful bait application and he concentrates on placing it in the right spot at the right time.
So what attracted Reece to fishing at Fryerning
Q: What are the best things about fishing at Fryerning?
A: I’d been fishing day ticket lakes, that were busy and not particularly safe. Fryerning offered me something different, safe, secure, attractive surroundings and an incredible stock of fish that no other lake offers.
Q: What is your most memorable capture?
A: My most memorable capture would be a 33lb Common I had , my first from the water. I then had 2 further fish of 26lb as I packed up. The following session I took another 30 this one was bigger at 35lb!

Q: If you had to choose one swim on the Valley Lake which one would it be and why?
A: It would be the 30 yard bar swim. You’ve got plenty of options of where to place your baits and it has been a very kind swim to me.

Q: What fish would you like to catch the most?
A: There are 2 fully scaled mirrors in the lake and I’d love to catch either of them.
A cracking 27lb Mirror
It was a pleasure catching up with Reece and a big thank you to him for taking the time to answer my questions.
I’m sure it won’t be long before he adds them fully scaled mirrors to his tally!
